A generation of dreamers – where are the results?

“Dream big” – “you can do anything” – the catch cries of the 1990’s but what has happened to the generations of hard workers, do-ers, and go-getters? We live in a time of innovators and entrepreneurs, but are they just a generation of dreamers?

Karen Brook, global coach and Australian facilitator of the Thinking into Results program believes today’s innovators and entrepreneurs are focused on the dream, but many lack the ability to deliver the results.

“There seems to be a lot of say-soer’s and chit chatters. Where are the results? Where is the end product? Many of today’s young dreamers lack the know-how and ability to turn their thinking into results,” she said.

After watching clients achieve great success during her mentoring program, Brook found that when she did her scheduled check up months later, many would have returned to their old habits and the change, innovation and results would have ceased.

“The problem is, most of us approach goals in entirely the wrong way – we focus on changing behaviours and habits in order to change results.

“If you really want lasting change, and results that stick – you need to ignite change at the level where your results are created in the first place. Your mind. This means thinking in a new and different way.

“Through the Thinking Into Results program, I help people to get out of their own way and actualise their goals.

“Every day, I see brilliant people getting stuck, and they don’t know why. I know why and I have a proven system that can facilitate real lasting results,” she said.

Three things you need to do today to turn yourself into a results activist

  1. Think – Get crystal-clear on what you want. Buy yourself a journal and start writing. What do you really want to be, do, have or give? What is your big worthy goal? What problems or challenges do you want to eliminate? Your mind is a marvellous resource for understanding – put it to work and it will give you the answers and ideas you need to move forward. Writing also creates order in the mind, so it helps you get calm, organised and focused.
  2. Take Action – Write down 6 goal achieving activities you can do today to move you towards your goal. Go to work on number 1 until it’s complete. Develop the daily habit of focusing on what is important and not be distracted by outside noise.
  3. Results – Did you do the best you could with the resources you had available? At the end of every day, ask yourself three important questions 1. What worked well? 2. What didn’t work? and 3. One thing you could do differently next time. Developing this daily awareness of where your mind and habits are at, will make you more productive at closing your knowing-doing gaps and get things done.
