The Science Behind Goal Setting

We must understand the mind before we begin to create the shifts that we desire. In Ep #2: ‘Understanding Your Magnificent Mind’, I go into the stick figure diagram in more detail.

This little diagram was created in 1934 by Dr Thurman Fleet to describe the mind. It helps you to understand how you are creating your results and what must happen to create the results you want.

96-98% of your results come from your subconscious mind, which is also referred to as your ’emotional mind’ where your emotions, feelings and paradigms reside.

A paradigm is a mental program that has almost exclusive control over your habitual behaviour and almost all of your behaviour is habitual. Your paradigms are created by a multitude of habits either programmed from a young age or over the course of your life. These paradigms can effect anything from; how you earn money, the relationships you attract, your companies operations, your use of time, your effectiveness, your logic and productivity – these are all a product of what is going on in your subconscious mind.

Your conscious mind directly affects your subconscious mind which in end creates the results expressed through the body. In order to attract the outcomes and goals you’re setting you must be building a new self image paradigm that is a match for the results you want to create.

This is where you have to take your goal, something that may seem like a fantasy to you at the moment, something that you have never had before and program that into your subconscious mind where 96-98% of your results happen.

In aviation, you first have to put the coordinates of where you want to go in to the computer before you hit auto-pilot. If you don’t have an end destination in sight, the auto-pilot will take the plane to the last known coordinates in that GPS. This is the exact same process as your mind. Unless you update the coordinates in your mind, you are going to continue to get the same or similar results.

Your subconscious mind is like your auto-pilot, if you program it with what you want then it will give it to you with less and less effort on your part. However, in the beginning we have got to invest the time and effort to get the programming right.

When we want to achieve something bigger than what we have done before life becomes easier, you become happier, you have a greater sense of wellbeing when you are moving in a direction you have never been before.

That is why you can become more effective, productive and achieve a hell of a lot more with less effort when you begin to understand this process.
