Tips To Stay Centred & Calm This Holiday Season

December can be overwhelming for many people for a variety of reasons. It’s important for you to recognise your limits, prioritise self-care, and communicate openly about your needs during this time.

Here are some pieces of advice to help you keep calm and center yourself during this time:

  1. Embrace Simplicity:
    • Focus on the essential aspects of the season. Identify what truly matters to you and your loved ones. Embracing simplicity can reduce stress and create more meaningful experiences.
  2. Practice Mindfulness:
    • Take moments throughout the day to practice mindfulness. Whether through deep breathing, meditation, or simply being present in the moment, mindfulness can help you stay centered and calm amidst the chaos.
  3. Prioritise Self-Care:
    • Amidst the busyness, don’t forget to take care of yourself. Ensure you get enough sleep, eat nourishing meals, and engage in activities that bring you joy. Taking care of yourself physically and mentally will better equip you to handle stress.
  4. Practice Gratitude:
    • Take a moment each day to reflect on the things you’re grateful for. Amidst the chaos, focusing on the positive aspects of your life can shift your perspective and bring a sense of calm.
  5. Setting Boundaries:
    • Understand your limits and be willing to say no to additional commitments that may contribute to your stress. It’s okay to prioritise your well-being.
  6. Connect with Loved Ones:
    • Use this time to strengthen your connections with friends and family. Lean on your support system for help and share the joy and responsibilities of the season with others.
  7. Time for Reflection:
    • Take some time to reflect on the past year and set intentions for the upcoming one. This can bring a sense of purpose and direction, grounding you in the midst of the December rush.

As magical as the holiday season can be, it’s not always the case for everyone.

December has the highest rates of loneliness and poor mental health than any other month, so check in with friends, family, and neighbours, and a reminder to be be kind to one another and yourself.
